OPERATION TOOFAN
Operation Toofan is a major statewide anti-narcotics campaign launched by the government of Kerala, India, on June 2, 2026.
Also known as Operation Toofan: The Narco Hunt, the initiative was announced by Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala to dismantle drug trafficking networks and curb the rising supply of synthetic drugs like MDMA, particularly around schools and colleges.
Key Pillars and Strategy
The campaign operates on a three-pronged approach combining law enforcement with public participation and medical help:
- Toofan Strikes: Strict enforcement and intelligence-driven raids by the Kerala Police and Excise Department to arrest dealers and seize illegal substances.
- Toofan Warrior: Public awareness programs involving students, teachers, parents, and local communities to act as anti-drug ambassadors.
- Toofan Care: Dedicated counseling, medical treatment, and rehabilitation support for individuals struggling with substance abuse.
