GEOGRAPHY
Keezhattur Grama Panchayat comprises hills, hill slopes, and paddy fields. Panthallur Mala and Purayan Mala are the prominent hills here. Other notable areas include Parakkodan Kunnu, Barlikkunnu, Cholakkunnu, Pookottilkunnu, Nechikkunnu, and Kottiyalkunnu. The Kadalundi River flows along the northern boundary of the panchayat. Nemmini Mala, part of the Panthallur hill range, houses the 'Young India Estate'—a large plantation owned by *Malayala Manorama*. In recent times, most of the hill slopes and valleys have been converted for rubber cultivation, while paddy cultivation is now practiced only on a negligible scale. The panchayat is bordered by the Velliyar River to the north; Angadippuram and Vettathur panchayats to the south; and Melattur, Vettathur, Anakkayam, and Mankada panchayats to the east.
Geographically, Keezhattur Panchayat falls within the *Edanad* (midland) region. Characterized by hills, slopes, and valleys, the area is closely linked to the local river system. The place names of the various panchayats in this region reflect their relative locations along the Velliyar River: Melattur is situated upstream (at the 'upper' end), Keezhattur is downstream (at the 'lower' end), and Edayattur lies in between.
